What is the "Safe Living for Heroes" campaign?

"Safe Living for Heroes" is an initiative by Safe Living At Home aimed at supporting first responders and military personnel. We offer free home environmental assessments to ensure their living spaces are safe, accessible, and comfortable. This campaign is our way of giving back to those who have dedicated their lives to serving our community and country.

Who is eligible for the "Safe Living for Heroes" campaign?

The campaign is open to first responders (such as firefighters, police officers, and EMS personnel) and military personnel who reside in MD. For in-person assessments  must live within a 30-mile radius of 20871. For those living beyond this area, we offer virtual consultations. The nominee should have a form of disability or need that qualifies for home modification services.

How can I nominate someone for the campaign?

You can nominate a hero by filling out our nomination form available on our website. The form requires basic information about the nominee and a brief description of why they deserve a home environmental assessment.

What does the home environmental assessment include?

The assessment involves a thorough evaluation of the nominee's home by our experts. We assess the home's accessibility, safety, and any specific needs related to the nominee’s service-related injuries or conditions. Based on this assessment, we recommend modifications to improve their living environment.

What kind of modifications are typically recommended?

Common modifications include installing grab bars in bathrooms, adding ramps for wheelchair access, widening doorways, modifying kitchen setups for easier accessibility, and installing stairlifts. The specific modifications depend on the individual needs of each nominee.

Is there a cost involved for the nominee or their family?

No, there is no cost for the nominated first responders or military personnel. The home environmental assessment and subsequent recommendations are completely free as part of the "Safe Living for Heroes" campaign.

How often do you select a nominee for the campaign?

We select one nominee on a monthly basis. The nomination deadline is the 25th of each month, and selections are made shortly thereafter.
