Selection Process and Criteria


Eligibility Criteria

Participant Eligibility:

·         Service Requirement: Open exclusively to first responders (firefighters, police officers, EMS) and military personnel.

·         Residency: Must be Maryland resident. Must reside within a 30-mile radius of the 20871 area for in-person assessment. Beyond this area, virtual consultations are offered.

·         Age Criteria: Must be 18 years or older.

·         Disability or Need: Should have a form of disability or a specific need that qualifies them for home modification services.

Promotional Guidelines

·         Truthful Representation: All advertising materials and communications will accurately represent the campaign’s purpose and scope.

·         Compliance with Laws: Adherence to local and national advertising standards and laws.

·         Public Communication:

·         Transparency: Clear communication about the campaign's objectives, process, and how nominees are selected.

·         Privacy Respect: Ensuring the privacy of all participants is respected in public communications.

Prize/Giveaway Details

·         Primary Offering: Free home environmental assessment for selected nominees, leading to recommended home modifications.

·         No Financial Prize: No monetary prize or alternative is offered.

·         Conditions: Modifications suggested are recommendations only; actual implementation is subject to the nominee’s approval and circumstances.

Draw and Winner Selection

·         Review Committee: A committee reviews all nominations and selects beneficiaries based on set criteria, focusing on need and impact.

·         Monthly Selection: Beneficiaries are selected on a monthly basis, considering the volume of nominations.

Winner Notification:

·         Direct Contact: Selected nominees are notified directly via email or phone.

·         Consent for Public Announcement: Beneficiaries' stories are shared publicly only with their consent.

Record Keeping

·         Nomination Records: All nominations are recorded and securely stored.

·         Selection Process Documentation: Detailed records of the selection process are maintained for transparency.

·         Privacy Compliance: Documentation is handled in compliance with privacy laws and regulations.

Nomination Receipt and Recording:

·         Upon receipt, all nominations are logged into a secure database with their submission date and relevant details.

Preliminary Screening:

·         Each nomination is initially reviewed for basic eligibility - confirming the nominee’s status as a first responder or military personnel, and residency within the stipulated area.

Detailed Evaluation:

·         A committee, comprising members from Safe Living At Home and possibly external experts, conducts a detailed evaluation of each nomination. This includes reviewing the nominee's service background, the nature of their need for home modifications, and the potential impact these modifications could have.

Monthly Shortlisting:

·         The committee shortlists candidates monthly, based on the evaluation criteria.

Final Selection:

·         From the shortlist, the final beneficiary (or beneficiaries) is selected. This decision is based on the predefined criteria and the potential positive impact of the modifications.

Notification and Confirmation:

·         Selected nominees are notified and their consent is obtained for any public announcement.

Documentation and Announcement:

·         Detailed records of the selection process are maintained for transparency. Selected nominees are publicly announced, subject to their consent.

·         Consideration of the nominee's personal circumstances, including family composition, financial situation, and any other relevant factors that may impact their home life.
